It has been my privilege to be involved with Chess Challenge in DC since August 2007. While helping our founder, Richard England, develop his vision of a chess program for students in DC to building one of the District’s most highly-respected academic enrichment programs, I have had the pleasure of working with a small, but superb and devoted staff and a very talented and engaged Board of Directors. Our chess coaches are the magical element that breathes life into our curriculum.
We have come mighty far, mighty fast, always keeping our eyes strategically placed on our mission to serve children who need extra tools to achieve the skills that increase their chances of success in life and in school, as well as on our goal to provide quality programming that is both fun and meaningful.
We are pleased to have many wonderful partners – from our donors and supporters, to highly respected leaders in the youth development community, and, last but not least, to individuals in the District of Columbia government, the public school system, and public charter schools.
I would like to invite you to come visit one of our sites (you need only contact our Program Director, Jan Gordon at firstname.lastname@example.org to set a mutually convenient time) so you can see Chess Challenge and our enthusiastic students – at work and in play – for yourself!
